Crowley’s government supply chain team reached a new milestone recently in its successful management of the Defense Freight Transportation Services contract through the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
Crowley and its partner carriers carried out the transport and management to support the warfighters in the 24th Marine Wing Support Squadron and the 28th Marine Air Support Squadron from Cherry Point, N.C. for the Defense Logistics Agency. Using diverse equipment and versatile capabilities, Crowley provided 24/7 support for the move, completing the move of 205 trailers.
The result: Nearly perfect on-time rates and strong support for U.S. warfighters.

“We are constantly looking to make improvements,” said Shiju Zacharia, Crowley’s vice president, government supply chain. “We do that by instituting best practices and using more efficient modes and methods of transportation. For example, we can sometimes convert time-definite shipments to ground, or create multi-stop truckload routes, or take advantage of optimization technology provided by 3Gtms.”
3Gtms Inc. is a global provider of Tier 1 transportation management software (TMS).
